Vats for Bleaching Adamba or Screw-pine

A new industry is the manufacture of hats from the fiber of the Adamba or screw-pine. They resemble the famous Panama hats and are a good cheap substitute for them. The fiber is prepared and bleached in factories and then given out to be woven by hand in the homes of the people. The fiber is bleached in these vats.
