Welcome Gate into Old Palace, Shuri

This shows one of the inner gates leading to the old palace. Near here used to stand a water-clock which marked the hours. The time was signaled to the people of the city by means of a flag on the top of the wall.
古い宮殿への歓迎の門、首里*
これは古い宮殿へと通じる内部の門の一つです。この近くには水時計があり、時を刻んでいました。時刻は、壁の天辺に旗を掲げて、市民に知らされていました。
