Nagushiku* Castle

Prosaic and hard-working as Loo Choo seems today, its history is a romantic record of wars and intrigues, and the island of Okinawa is dotted with the remains of castles once occupied by its petty chieftains. This is one of the best preserved of these strongholds. It dates from the middle of the 15th century. Its walls are built with large stones laid together without any kind of cement or mortar. Standing in a commanding position it must, in ancient times, have presented a formidable defense.
中城城
琉球は今日では散文的で勤勉だと感じられますが、その歴史はロマンに満ちた戦争と陰謀の記録であり、沖縄本島にはかつて群小の領主たちによって支配されていた城の遺構が点在しています。これはそうした要塞の中でも最もよく保存されているものの一つです。これは１５世紀半ばに出来たものです。その城壁は大きな石をセメントやモルタルの類を使わずに積み重ねて作られています。見晴らしのいい位置に立っていますから、往時は、堅固な防御力を示したに違いありません。
