Middle Class Loo Chooan Family

The same thing may be said of the people seen in the picture of a Loo Chooan family. The man on the left is dressed in purely Japanese style as are all the young people standing on veranda. The women at the right wear kimonos cut much like Japanese kimonos though with shorter sleeves and worn without the "obi" or sash which is such a characteristic feature of the Japanese woman's dress.

ある琉球の家族を撮ったこの写真の中の人々についても同じことが言えるでしょう。 左端の男性は純粋に日本風の装いをしており、縁側の若い人たちも皆そうです。右側の女性たちは日本の着物によく似た仕立ての着物を着ていますが、袖はより短く、日本女性の着物の大きな特徴である「帯」を締めていません。
