Sugar Mill in Loo Chooan Village

This is a sugar-mill in a Loo Chooan village. The juice is expressed by passing the cane between iron rollers which are kept in motion by a horse at the end of a long sweep. The juice is evaporated in these tiled-roofed houses we see in the center of the picture.
琉球の村の製糖場
これは琉球のある村の製糖場です。長いさおの先にいる馬によって動かされ続けている鉄のローラーの間にさとうきびを通すことによって汁がしぼり出されます。写真中央に見られる瓦葺き屋根の家々でこの汁から水分を蒸発させます。
