Garden of the Villa of the Former Loo Chooan King

Garden of the Villa of the Former Loo Chooan King

Slide No. 10

When the kingdom of Loo Choo was formally annexed by Japan in 1880, its king was made a Japanese marquis and granted a pension of 30,000 yen ($15,000) per anuum. He died about fifteen years ago and was buried with royal honors. His son and heir, the present marquis, lives in what is modestly called a villa, but which is vastly more comfortable than his father's old palace ever was. This picture shows a bit of the garden of his summer home.
