Library’s Services Starting May 21st

The University of the Ryukyus currently has restrictions in place on education and research activities as a preventative measure for the spread of COVID-19, in accordance with the “Guideline for Restrictions on Activities for Preventing the Spread of COVID-19”. Accordingly, the University of the Ryukyus Library is currently temporarily closed while the University is under “restriction level 5” (Entering Campus Prohibited) for on-campus activity restrictions.
Given the university’s decision to change the content of the restriction measures for campus activities, we will also be making changes to the Library’s available services (explained below), effective May 21st.
Moreover, we will continue to reassess the Library’s available services moving forward, in accordance with the “University of the Ryukyus: Guideline for Restrictions on Activities for Preventing the Spread of COVID-19.” We apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Use of Study Areas Prohibited
The environment in the library is such that ensuring proper air ventilation is difficult. For that reason, in-library services will remain unavailable.

Reservations for borrowing / picking up materials for faculty and students who need to prepare for writing dissertations

Reservations for borrowing / picking up materials, which is restricted to faculty under the current restriction measure, will now be available to students who need to prepare for writing dissertations. As for materials unavailable for loan to students, the Library will make copies of the parts of materials students need and copying costs will be covered by the library.
However, since it is stated in the Measures of Restrictions on Activities on Campus (starting on May 21) that “Graduate students are allowed to conduct research activities with the most careful attention, while taking necessary measures to prevent the spread of infection and by receiving guidance from academic advisors”, students may only place reservations for and receive materials via their academic advisors.
For detailed instructions on how to place reservations, see here.

Extension of Return Dates
The return date for current loans, which had been extended to May 10th, has now been extended to June 30th.

4. ILL サービス(他機関からの資料取寄せ)(教員、および、学位論文等の準備が必要な学生を対象)/ Interlibrary Loan Service for Faculty and students who need to prepare for writing dissertations
